Review By Darren McIntyre
Girlschool is a hard rock / heavy metal/biker metal band from London, England originally formed in 1978 after coming together at school and was named Painted Lady. The girls changed their name to Girlschool and have been frequently associated with contemporaries Motorhead they are the longest-running all-female rock band to date and are still active after more than 40 years together. The girls bring us their blistering new album WTFortyFive, their 14th studio release and from that comes the haunting riff-laden foot-stomping melodic monster Cold Dark Heart which I will be reviewing for you today.
Cold Dark Heart – We kick off this riff-laden pounding monster with a cool double bass kicked intro that is accompanied by a sludgy gritty riff that lets this awesome piece of music come at us.
The dark melodic vocals rise and this punchy gritty beast takes shape as they flow effortlessly through this killer new offering, the full bassline is handing us a cool mellow groove that wraps itself around this foot-stomping beat that is just delivering in truckloads.
The whole arrangement is a real dark effort from the girls as they kick in the doors and deliver a cool sludgy groove that builds with ease as the riffs erupt and let this killer track work, we are feeling the energy oozing from this heavier riffed punchier groove number that is letting the girls express themselves more with soulful lyrics that wander freely through this energy laden dark monster.
There is swagger oozing from the composition as the girls up the tempo and shoot from the hip in this classy shredding power-driven track.
