Single Review – duffpress

Review By Darren McIntyre

Bad Wolves are a hard rock / heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California that formed in 2017 and brought us killer albums Disobey in 2018 & N.A.T.I.O.N. IN 2019, Dear Monsters in 2021 and their latest offering Sacred Kiss EP. The boys dealt with the fallout of the exit of Tom Vext and brought in powerhouse vocalist Daniel ‘ DL’ Laskiewicz who I am sure will not only fill but surpass the void left by Tommy Vext. I last saw these boys last year in Glasgow and they simply took the roof from the venue, they have been on tour and are off out with rockers Asking Alexandria & The HU all across the USA, before all that kicks off the boys release their scintillating new single Bad Friend which I will be reviewing for you today.

Bad Friend – The track begins with a slow melodic guitar pick that really sets the tone as we get cool slow-paced vocals that release this track to us with a sense that we are ready to have our faces melted. The sampler tones shatter the silence as a pounding rhythm section brings meaty bass kicks and cymbal crashes that let this track do its thing, we get a shuddering bassline that brings depth, attitude and plenty of swaggers to this foot-stomping rock n roll beast. The vocals are strong and have a gravelly rawness that just allows this track the room it needs to express itself, we have a rasping power-drenched lyric-driven beast that changes direction as the thundering bass kicks really give it some depth. This is a cracking composition that just oozes quality musicianship with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure.
