Review By Darren McIntyre
Che’ Aimee Dorval is a singer/songwriter/musician from Vancouver, Canada whose story begins at age 16 when she performed her first show in a bistro, after completing her education she travelled through Europe where she performed as a street musician. In 2007 Che’ won British Columbia Star Search which led to recording sessions in LA, she could not relate to performing other musicians’ songs and returned to Vancouver where she was introduced to Devin Townsend, Che’ would guest on his album KI.
She went on to write and release her debut album Underachiever in 2009, Casualties Of Cool( With Devin Townsend in 2014 & Between The Walls & The Window in 2017, she also released 2 EPs, Volume 1 in 2014 & Sad Songs For Quarantine Lovers in 2020. Later this year Che’ will release her stunning new album The Crowned and a follow-up UK & Europe Tour will follow to promote this fantastic new record, today I have the pleasure of reviewing the opening track The Crowned, please sit back as I ready us for this journey.
The Crowned – The track begins with cool deep dark melodic guitar picks that flow effortlessly through the opening credits of the song. Coming through our colossal haunting vocals that really let this track deliver its full weight as the killer rhythm section comes at us full force, we have a deep bassline that is handing us epic tones that work so well with this incredible piece of music. The dark rasping guitar riffs go hand in hand with this soulful songstress as she really digs deep to deliver a fantastic track that is surrounded by snare drum beats that drive this haunting number onwards. this is a real thought-provoking piece of music that transports us to another place for sure as we soak up the intense tones lingering throughout this exceptional piece of music.
