Review By Steve Shipley
Nighthawk, a brainchild of Robert Majd (of METALITE and CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD) on guitar and Björn Strid (renowned for his work with SOILWORK and The NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA) on vocals, emerged as a promising musical venture. Their EP serves as a compelling introduction, showcasing the live prowess of these Swedish rockers. The EP preludes their debut album, “PROWLER,” recorded at the iconic Abbey Road studios, evoking the essence of late ’70s and early ’80s rock reminiscent of stadium-rock legends of that era.
Kicking off the EP is “Highest Score,” a punchy track that clocks in just shy of 3 minutes. It launches with robust guitar work and captivating lyrics, swiftly segueing into an impressive guitar riff that sets a high-octane tone for the entire collection.
“Running Wild” embraces an ’80s aura, skillfully intertwining commanding vocals with the band’s dynamic range, crafting a well-orchestrated tune that resonates with the era’s vibe.
“Action” perpetuates the electrifying sound, brimming with relentless energy amplified by powerful vocals and familiar, resounding guitar riffs. It captures the essence of a live performance, offering a glimpse into the band’s infectious onstage energy.
“Free Your Mind” resonates with another ’80s-inspired essence, showcasing an impressive vocal range while exuding an intense energy reminiscent of bands like Iron Maiden, infusing their unique style into the mix.
Nighthawk’s distinctive hard rock style, infused with electrifying guitar riffs and pulsating energy, positions them as potential contenders among the greats of the ’80s rock bands. This EP serves as a meticulously crafted introduction to Nighthawk’s musical ethos.
