Review By Darren McIntyre
The 29th Funktion are a blues/funk/soul outfit from St Ives, Cambridgeshire who recently dropped their killer debut EP Skellington, the band does a varied set of covers and original material. Today the band gave us their infectious groover track Alive which I will be reviewing for you today.
Alive – A cool snare drum punch with bass kicks gets this funking groove beast off the ground as the cool slick guitar licks wander freely through the opening salvo. Delicious smoldering vocals pour from the arrangement and set the scene as we let this toe-tapping blues explosion do its thing, we have epic basslines wrapping themselves around this dark emotion-filled track as the rhythm section comes at us with cymbal crashes that have a real deep punchy groove that leads onto the sweet, crisp guitar licks that are driving this fantastic track and taking us to another place. The smoldering blues-soaked vocals are just insane as they allow this funkalicious number to open and deliver a sweet clean groove that will have us reaching for the repeat button.
The 29th Funktion is made up of Lulu on vocals with bright pink hair, Tommy on guitar and Sam on the drums
