The Devils are a fuzz rockin’ duo from Naples, Italy. They formed in 2015 and quickly released three albums, the first two were produced by Jim Diamond (The White Stripes/The Sonics) and the third was overseen by Alan Johannes (Queens Of The Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures/PJ Harvey) who also produced this release.
The Devils kick off with sultry sexy blues rocker, ‘Divine Is The Illusion’, which immediately shows their fuzzy rock n roll before the darker dual vocal of ‘Killer’s Kiss’ and the steady rollin’ ‘Mr Hot Stuff’. ‘Big City Lights’ is a quirky rendition of a 1964 single by Cleo Randle then it gets melancholic on the sorrowful ‘Til Life Do Us Part’. Things get kinda raunchy and raucous on the instrumental fun of ‘Roar II’ before some more hip-shakin”’, lip-curlin’, dumb-ass, kick-ass, rock n roll on ‘Shake ‘Em’. ‘Teddy Girl Boogie’ is a re-titled version of Crazy Cavan and the Rhythm Rockers 1975 single ‘TeddyBoy Boogie’. It’s another down-and-dirty, sexy and smoky hip thruster that’s guaranteed to get you moving. ‘The Last Rebel’ brings a glam-like stomp with a sexy drawled vocal then the final cut ‘Horror And Desire’ is a steady boogie almost like Rose Tattoo and allows producer Johannes to give it some on the squally guitar solo.
Ordinarily, I’m not a real fan of these duo things but this is fabulous. It’s nasty, down and dirty true rock n roll. You can feel the sweaty back alley sluttery as it oozes out of the speakers and crushes any inhibitions you may have and allows you to think all those repressed thoughts you’ve put to the back of your mind – so, essentially, here you have the soundtrack to achieve your nastiest sexiest desires. Let yourself go and allow your true self free at least once!
