Review By Darren McIntyre

Julia Lage is a bass player/singer/songwriter who picked up the bass at age 13 after being inspired by bands such as Rush, Aerosmith & Guns & Roses. Julia’s career started at age 17 when she became a full-time member of the critically acclaimed Latin Grammy-nominated Brazilian band Barra Da Saia. After a 13-year tenure with the band Julia left and relocated to Los Angeles where she put her BA in Music & Arts to good use, she has worked with the likes of Pat Travers, Elliot Easton, Richie Kotzen & Adam Lambert as well as Janelle Monae and rapper Jidenna @ American Idol Finals. Julia was a touring bassist for Smith / Koetzen in 2022 and was also asked to join the Multi-Platinum female band Vixen, Julia has projects which include her solo music as well as her band The Sister Knot. Today Julia releases her brand new solo single The Ride which I will be reviewing for you today.

The Ride – The track begins with a real sludgy dark heavy riffed guitar lick that flows into soulful melodic haunting vocals that let this track come to life. The pounding rhythm section commands the room with snare drum punches that welcome cymbal crashes that just grab you and let you know that this track is the real deal, the awesome vocal addition of Dug Pinnick just elevates this arrangement to another level as the musicality just kicks in the doors and brings us a well crafted piece of music that lets Julia bring her soulful vocals as well as her incredible bassline that is wrapping itself around this real monster track. The slick clean guitar licks of Richie Kotzen just take us to another place as he sizzles with clean chords that let this beast of a track deliver depth,

attitude and bags of swagger that instantly have you hooked, we are captivated by the soulful tones that are flowing effortlessly through this fantastic track that is just letting us feel the groove as it wanders freely through this well-crafted arrangement, we find ourselves being taken to somewhere else as Richie drops sizzling licks that blend well in this sludgy, gritty rocking beast that will have us reaching for the repeat button, we eagerly await the album which should be coming soon.
