One Square Mile are a punk outfit from Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles and was formed in 2017, the band name comes from the city of Hermosa Beach which covers…. wait for it One Square Mile. The band brought us their debut album The System in 2018 and have followed that with their stunning new EP Source Of Suffering which I will be reviewing for you today.
Revisions Of Truth – A gritty riffed guitar lick erupts from the get-go as this punk-inspired rocker track kicks in the doors and lets us feel the full force of this epic opener. The soaring dark vocals control the groove as the rhythm section hits us with real solid snare drum punches that are followed by bass kicks and searing cymbal crashes that give us what we came for. The full bassline drops sweet clean groove beats that work well with the crunching guitar riffs that flow effortlessly through this fantastic opening track, the whole arrangement is a power-drenched beast of a track that has bags of energy, depth and swagger to get this fantastic monster track off the ground.
Remove You – The rhythm section erupts with a real flurry of thundering snare drum punches that let the cymbal crashes rain down on us as this rousing monster track opens. The groove is a real gritty affair as the shredding riffs wander effortlessly through the track as the bassline drops insane beats that just wrap themselves around this punk-inspired arrangement, the vocals are just rasping tones that fit the track well as they steer the whole composition with ease. This is a short sharp poke in the eye with a sharp impliment that will have us shouting for more.
Dead In The Sun – The rhythm section combines with a shredding guitar riff that offers us a real furious lick that lets this foot-stomping track take us to another place as the whole arrangement just pops. The sizzling guitar work is just awesome as the bass flows freely and hits us with deep full on grooves that really grab our attention, the soulful rasping vocals command our attention as this well-oiled rocker track is building and building as the band really digs deep and hits us with a real solid punchy snare drum kick that has bass hits that are followed by killer cymbal crashes that are raining down on us as the whole piece just shines with searing licks that are working so well with this fast and furious groove that is real infectious.
One Way – Thundering rhythm section opens the account as a solid snare drum punch is hurtling towards us with pounding bass kicks that are followed by a flurry of cymbal smashes that are just on the money. The vocals are strong, and dark and have a real rasping tone that fits this arrangement perfectly as the band kicks in the doors and hits us with a punchy fist-pumping beast that has depth, swagger and bags of attitude as the whole arrangement just pops with real sludgy riffs and a meaty bassline that is handing us sweet tones that allow this thundering rock n roller to punch us straight in the face as it delivers an uppercut to the jaw, awesome.
Sludge – Deep full-on bassline opens this account as a slick dark guitar lick erupts from the off as this foot-stomping beast rears its head and hits us straight on. The rhythm section is commanding the room with killer snare drum punches that bring bass kicks by the truckload as the cymbal crashes do their thing, we get a real sludgy gritty guitar groove that lets these awesome vocals come for us with their epic tone that just wraps itself around this sweet deep rocker track that has awesome tones that are hitting us from all sides as this killer 4 piece ramp up the energy to 11 as we just stand back and feel the full force of this Hermosa outfit stamp all over us.
