Black Vultures – Ready to make this year count.
Single – Never Say
Release date: 2nd February.
Review by Linda McDermott
Wales has produced some great bands in recent years who have managed to break through and make a name for themselves in a music industry that is a tough nut to crack.
Starting on that path is a band called The Black Vultures. They are a 4-piece rock band, hailing from the heart of the Gwent Valleys, South Wales and they are hoping to make this year count for them.
The Black Vultures are releasing a new single, ‘Never Say’ on the 2nd of February, with a video to follow on 23rd February. It is the follow-up to their debut track ‘Treat Me Like an Animal’ released in November 2023.
The Black Vultures are:
Huw Williams – Vocals & Rhythm Guitar
Aled Owen Jones – Lead Guitar
Mitch Casey – Bass & Backing Vocals
Brandon Pritchard – Drums.
With influences coming from various sources including Queens of the Stone Age, Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Sabbath and The Foo Fighters they have an immense melting pot to produce a recipe for some hard-hitting tunes.
The band have great energy in their songs and this track demonstrates just that.
The song starts with a great bluesy distorted guitar, piquing my interest and the foot is tapping already. There is a nod to Black Sabbath as the drums kick in and add to the pace. Huw’s distinctive voice then leads you through as the track progresses with a great rock and roll feel to it and then there’s that singalong chorus, that I’m a sucker for.
This is a great song that you’ll want to put into your playlist and listen to again and again as it has an uplifting quality to it, even though the lyrical content is not the happiest. The guys say “It focuses on a relationship, whereby one person within the relationship realises that there is a need to move on. Having come to the conclusion that things aren’t working, the party ending the relationship is hopeful that the other person doesn’t present themselves back in their life, in the hope that they agree to walk away in a different direction without further issues or problems.”
So, what have the guys got planned to get themselves noticed in 2024? Well, there’s a third single due to be released in April with a further video to go with it, and work will begin on their debut album mid-year. They also have several gigs lined up so catch them live if you can and give them some support.
