The Masked Singer: An Interview with Alen Ljubić of Dymytry

Spread the love

By Justin Smulison

Dymytry is a metal band from the Czech Republic whose sound is often described as “psy-core,” which can be a blend of modern metal, hardcore hooks, gang vocals and socio-politically aware lyrics that, when delivered via intense, masked rockers, can permeate your psyche. They broke new ground when additional singer, Alen “A.L.” Ljubić joined to record the English-language version of Revolt, and front the band for related shows.

The new formula was effective, with Dymytry reaching new audiences through airplay and featured in festival lineups across Europe. The band also had standout moments in support of Lordi and Pantera in 2023.

The band maintained the momentum in January with Five Angry Men, released worldwide by AFM Records. The 10 tracks on Five Angry Men continue on the path established on Revolt, with aggressive lyrics, clean riffs laced with Eastern European instrumentation and prominent vocal melodies. The band takes some more left turns, most notably on the title track, which is reminiscent of Body Count or even the groundbreaking crossover soundtrack, Judgment Night.

Jace Media Music Contributor Justin Smulison caught up with Ljubic to discuss the themes on Five Angry Men, fronting this metal rarity and preparing for Dymytry’s first headlining tour outside of the Czech Republic this March.
