Review By Darren McIntyre
Walter Trout is a musician/songwriter/guitarist originally from Ocen City, New Jersey who has been active since 1969, Walter relocated to Los Angeles where he became a sideman for the likes of John Lee Hooker, Percy Mayfield, Big Mama Thornton, Joe Tex & many more. Walter was the lead guitarist in Canned Heat, and lead guitarist in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Walter formed Walter Trout Band in 1989and has given us 19 studio albums, 10 as Walter Trout & The Radicals and on March 1st he brings us his incredible new album Broken which features collaborations with some of the biggest and best in the business, today he gave us the colossal Bleed(Ft Will Wilde on Harmonica), Broken (Ft Beth Hart) and today drops his third offering in the shape of Talkin To Me which I will be reviewing for you today.
Talkin To Myself – Straight out of the gate comes sweet, clean guitar licks that are the unmistakable sound of the legend that is Walter Trout for sure. Soulful blues-soaked vocals bring this track to our attention as the arrangement brings colossal Hammond-style keys that wrap themselves around this foot-stomping blues attack, the whole piece just merges with cool full-on basslines that drop dark, melodic blues tones that give this track depth, swagger and bags of soul. The effortless guitar licks are springing up all over the track and let us know that Walter is bringing us a real thought-provoking composition that is steeped in punchy snare drum beats as the cymbal crashes rain down on us as the band just comes together and really delivers something quite special. Catch this guy on tour later in the year or miss him at your peril.
