Review By Darren McIntyre
Bex Marshall is a blues musician/songwriter based in Crouch End, London although she originally grew up in Devon. Bex started playing guitar at age 11 and 18 began working on cruise liners to hone her musical skills, Bex cites Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin & Tina Turner as her influences. Bex has given us albums Kitchen Table in 2008, and The House Of Mercy in 2012 & on March 1st she dropped her exquisite new offering Fortuna, from which we have already had the opening blues explosion of 5 AM, I Just Can’t Look You In The Eye, and today drops epic 3rd single Preaching To The Choir which I will be bringing to you today.
Preaching To The Choir – This is a real dose of southern blues with simply exquisite guitar work that is wrapped in soulful melodic vocals that let the track unfold. Fabulous piano tones are littered throughout the arrangement as a dark, deep, meaty bassline wanders freely through the track and drops fantastic grooves all over this toe-tapping blues explosion that is just breathtaking, the whole band are on fire with simple but effective tones that let this awesome piece do it’s thing as Bex lets her fingers do the talking with colossal chords that are flowing effortlessly through this classy track. The track just rises up and delivers sweet clean tones that are letting the musicality do the talking as we feel the energy oozing from this charismatic musician as she shows us what she is made of.
