Review By Darren McIntyre
Geethali Norah Jones Shankar(aka Norah Jones) is a singer/songwriter/pianist from New York City, New York who has been active since 2001. Norah is the daughter of Ravi Shankar and she has sold more than 50 million records worldwide, won 9 Grammy’s and been ranked 60th on Billboard Magazine’s Artist of the 2000’s decade chart. Norah launched her solo career in 2002 with the release of Come Away With Me which was certified Diamond selling 27 million copies, Norah has given us 9 studio albums including her new album Visions, I will be reviewing her nes single Staring At The Walls so please settle yourself in and immerse yourself in the powering bluesy vocals of this fantastic artist.
Staring At The Wall – The track begins with snare drum taps that welcome a sweet clean guitar pick that has mellow piano tones running through it. The fabulous melodic soulful blues vocals pour into the arrangement as we feel the delicious bassline come at us with mellow grooves that really let this track breathe, the composition is smooth with delicious tones that really grab our attention and let Norah really express herself. Norah herself strums along with crisp, clean guitar licks that really balance out this fantastic toe tapping arrangement. The piano tones are littered throughout the piece and just elevate the sound somewhat as the cool rhythm section takes us to another place with it’s punchy groove as the guitar wanders freely through the track and works well with the deep pulsing bass that wraps itself around this wonderful new piece.
