Their rendition of “Hey Jude” was nothing short of spectacular, with playful banter asserting their prowess even against the legendary Beatles. The interaction with the crowd was exceptional, with Thom leading the charge, effortlessly engaging everyone with his charming wit and stage presence. The ongoing banter about their chips and seagull experience earlier in the day added a humorous touch, creating a lively rapport with the audience that lasted throughout the night. Kate’s infectious smile was a constant presence, reflecting the sheer joy the band exuded while performing. Songs like “The Meaning of Life” and “Overthink Everything” resonated deeply, with each member pouring their heart and soul into every note.
The surprise covers, including Billy Bragg’s “A New England” and The Housemartins’ “Emerald City / Caravan of Love,” showcased their eclectic taste and ability to make any song their own. Kate’s rendition of “85 Trips” accompanied by Thom’s live drawing further highlighted their creativity and spontaneity. As the set reached its climax with hits like “21” and “Start Again,” Thom’s playful antics reached new heights, even involving the crowd in a cheeky message to a friend overseas. The encore, featuring “Letter To Myself” and “Burning House,” left the audience craving for more.
