Single – Why Don’t Ya Like Me
Release Date 12th April 2024
Review by Linda McDermott
Not Now Norman is a duo consisting of Taylor-Grace on vocals and Zander Brown on guitar and backing vocals, and they are a force to be reckoned with, especially with this track.
Trolls, keyboard warriors, whatever you want to call the horrible people that thrive on anonymity, spreading misery through hurtful comments and harassment online, Taylor-Grace has a message for you and a strategy for those who have suffered because of them. With lyrics as her weapon, she defies the trolls, channelling their negativity into a powerful track that will resonate with those who have also suffered.
I really like Taylor-Grace’s gutsy attitude in this song, it’s a middle finger up to the trolls, it’s about brushing them off, laughing at them and not giving them the satisfaction of a negative reaction.
This hard rock anthem sends a defiant message towards the haters. With determined vocals and powerful guitar riffs, they have crafted a great song that will resonate with those who have been affected by this growing culture. This single confronts the onslaught of online negativity but was inspired by one particular message that sparked laughter because of how ridiculous it was. Taylor-Grace challenges the toxicity directed at her with a strong and determined attitude, each chord in the track adding to the message of resilience and defiance. Not Now Norman want to tell the listeners to rise above the noise the trolls make, shake them off and just get on with living their lives. Not easy, but it can be done.
The inspired song comes from the messages Taylor-Grace has continually received on the internet over the years since starting Not Now Norman. She says, “Many messages have been related to my looks or because of my gender, but this message was different from the rest, in that it was actually creative. So, after silently questioning (what I can only assume is) this person’s bizarre knee fetish, I decided to write a song about it and other trolls that I get. This time however, rather than going to my usual ‘angry’ style, I decided to laugh about it”. I love this attitude, because through her music she has empowered herself to rise above the cruelty, and personally I think this is the perfect approach when dealing with bullies.
The single will be released on Friday, April 12th, 2024, followed by more singles throughout the year and their second album ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ later in the year.
To celebrate the release of the single, Not Now Norman will perform at The Barrel’s in Berwick-Upon-Tweed on Saturday, April 13th, 2024.
