After a hiatus from touring the UK due to logistical challenges and regulatory hurdles, Sean Webster has made a triumphant return, much to the delight of his fans. Having established himself in the Netherlands, Sean’s absence from the British music scene has been keenly felt, but his reappearance signals a welcomed comeback.
Sean’s recent performances have been met with enthusiastic support, with every show on his tour selling out. Collaborating with Dutch blues luminary, Erwin Java, their seamless synergy on stage was evident, allowing for dynamic improvisations and captivating performances. Accompanied by Phil Wilson and Greg Smith, both well-regarded fixtures in the UK music scene, the chemistry among the musicians was palpable.
With a repertoire that includes standout albums like “Three Nights Live” and “Almost,” Sean’s distinctive gravelly voice and soulful renditions have garnered widespread acclaim. Despite battling a throat infection during his recent show, Sean’s vocal prowess remained undiminished, showcasing his resilience and dedication to his craft. The purpose of this evening was the debut of Sean’s latest album,
“Java/Webster,” a collaborative effort with Erwin Java. Featuring ten original compositions all co-written with Erwin, the album is a testament to their songwriting prowess and musical chemistry. Tracks like “Fire on My Wheels,” “Hey Woman,” and “Take your time” exemplify Sean’s signature sound, and were stand-out tracks for me, delivering a captivating listening experience from start to finish.
I hasten to add though that there is no “Dead Wood ” in any of the titles every track is superb. The concert culminated in a heartfelt tribute to the musicians, with the audience showing their appreciation through thunderous applause and ending with a standing ovation. With impeccable sound engineering by Ross Davey and expert organization by Richard Dunning of the Tuesday Night Music Club, the evening was a testament to the enduring talent and camaraderie of the blues music community.
