Review By Darren McIntyre photos By Scott Anderson

Wild Willy Cobb is a Southern rocker originally from Georgia but now residing in Nashville, Tennessee who is influenced by 90’s grunge but adds his unique Southern twist. Willy has strong credentials being the cousin of Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/musician Brent Cobb who along with Jaren Johnston will be producing Willy’s forthcoming music. Tonight Willy brings his epic Southern groove with tinges of grunge to the QMU in Glasgow, please indulge me as I run the rule over this exciting new musician as he strolls onto the stage and launches into –

Country Punkin – This is a track that has a Nirvana feel to it as the grungy riffs erupt from the stage as this dungaree-wearing Georgia native brings his Southern draw vocals to tonight’s proceedings. We get a cool bass drum kick as the shredding guitar opens this track up with cool melodic vocals that are wrapped in a dark, moody bassline that just gets this swelling crowd moving as we witness this charismatic musician for the first time. The three-piece are firing on all cylinders from the off as we feel the energy oozing from this powering trio, the place is taking this relative newcomer to their hearts as he smiles from ear to ear hearing us bellow back to him as he kicks in the doors with a real energetic opening piece, we stroll into

Fuck You – Willie introduces himself and tells us that this is his first time touring, being outside the USA, playing live to anyone and hell fuck it lets go, this draws a huge cheer from the crowd. The track kicks in with a pounding snare drum beat as the heavy shredding guitar gets us up and running as we just watch in wonderment at this fantastic artist, we get the thundering rhythm section that is controlling the groove from the back of the room as the deep broody bassline drops epic funk tones all through this incredible piece of music. The band are breaking out with cool beats with snarling vocals that have a real depth to them as this kick-ass track just stirs the rocker in all of us, we move onto

Burnin Head – There is a real grungy groove to this track as the band settles into their beat as the place is just warming to this musician as he chats with us and tells us he has no idea what we are shouting about but fuck it I like it, this brings a huge cheer from us cocky Glaswegians. The pounding drums kick in as Willy lets his dark broody vocals wrap themselves around this cool fast-paced rocker track as we just stamp our feet and feel the shredding guitar licks pour from the Glasgow stage tonight as this wound-up ball of energy hits the deck and shreds out with the full backing of his bandmates as this thundering beast rears its head and lets us inside the mind of this young ball of energy as we roll into

Diddy On Days – This track brings a softer groove from this energetic 3 piece as they show us a softer grungier side as they build the track with a thumping beat that is joined by a dark, moody bassline as this epic monster comes to life. The gravelly yet youthful vocals fit this track perfectly as the place feels the tone fill every corner of this grand venue tonight, we are watching this young talented musician really fulfil his dream as he strolls around the stage and really shreds out with ease as the band just pulls together and brings the noise to Glasgow tonight, we cannot help but fall in love with this guy as his energy is so infectious as he really thanks us for spending our time with this crazy motherfucker as he drops killer licks all through this track, we dive straight into

Boy Toy – The pace is a slow affair as the punchy snare drum beats fill the air as the bass kicks bring the funk element to this slow-paced beast as it suddenly bursts into life. The shredding guitar riffs are ripping through the venue as this foot-stomping arrangement shows a softer, darker, melodic side to this fantastic musician as he brings the grunge effect to Glasgow, the bassline is handing us a sweet, deep, funk groove that just wraps itself around this crazy piece. The tempo is speeding up then pulling back as the vocals soar through the venue Willy cranks up the grunge element as he tears through the track before he hits us with a searing solo that brings the musicians together as it cements their performance in so many ways for sure, we rock into

Cigarette Smell – Willy tells us to check him out with all the usual outlets as he brings us his last track in the form of a pounding bass kick that just gets us moving with a deep classy guitar riff. The track bursts into life with a really cool snare drum beat that brings the cymbal snaps along for the ride, the bassline drops sweet, deep funk grooves all through the track as Willy’s grunge-style vocals let this track breathe. The whole track is a foot-stomping rock n roll juggernaut that is steamrolling through Glasgow tonight as the band takes it up a notch the screaming vocals grab our attention as this stunning 3 piece digs deep and brings the noise on this killer track that has brought him a wave of new fans tonight let me tell you. I had the pleasure of chatting with this young starlet after the show and he was so humbled by all the attention from us gritty Glaswegians.
