By Justin Smulison
One of the reasons I love the music of Freddy & The Phantoms is their versatility. Rooted in blues, the band has demonstrated they can venture into hard rock, country and Americana territories either from track to track or as an overlying theme for an album.
Where their prior album, A Universe From Nothing had the decibel level cranked up to 11, their newest outing, Heathen Gospels, has a bit more twang by comparison with touches of desert rock, all while maintaining variety and songwriting quality. Arriving on April 12 via Mighty Music and Target Records in Denmark, Heathen Gospels kicks off with “Heart Is A Highway,” and takes us on a classic rock ride through landscapes of the mind and soul.

On guitar and vocals is frontman Freddy Schnoor and I had a blast reconnecting with him to talk about the many sides, tones and shades of his music. We also talked about the upcoming shows in Denmark and Sweden and the possibilities of venturing out in the EU and returning to North America.
