Album: The Last Will and Testament of The UK Subs (live)
Release date: 3rd May 2024
Review by Linda McDermott
Here’s one for all you punks out there, old and new.
UK Subs, 47 years, 23 studio albums plus 17 live albums, thousands of live performances, countless band members and one legacy that will undoubtedly outlive us all. UK Subs have seen it all, done it all, and conquered all, becoming one of the most well-respected, most loved bands to come out of the original ’77 punk rock movement.

Recently, the band announced that their 2022 studio album Reverse Engineering would be their last and the 2023 tour in support of the album would be their final tour. That historic occasion concluded in the most epic way imaginable with five consecutive sold-out shows at London’s epicentre for the punk rock revolution, the 100 Club.
Thankfully, this superb finale was captured on both video and audio and is set to be released as a multimedia CD/DVD set on the 3rd of May.
Still fronted by incendiary frontman Charlie Harper along with long-time bassist Alvin Gibbs and newer members Steve Straughan and Stefan Häublein, the band offers thrilling, energetic performances of all their classic songs.

The band produce pure, raw, unadulterated hardcore punk rock at its very finest. This album, though not the same as seeing them live and getting involved with the mayhem that can ensue with a good old-fashioned mosh pit, gives you a great indication of what it would be like to be there.
The album is jam-packed with classic hits that are anarchic anthems for true punks, including some of my favourites, that take me back to the jukebox in the local in the early years. I love the classics, ‘Stranglehold’, ‘Rockers’, ‘Warhead’ and ‘Teenage’ to name a few, but there are many more that will appeal if you’ve not listened to the band in a while or at all.
The album embodies the raw energy and rebellious spirit that has defined the UK Subs enduring legacy. From blistering guitar riffs to rebellious lyrics, the band delivers a fitting conclusion to their remarkable career, leaving an indelible mark for punk rock generations to come.
