Review By Darren McIntyre
Rooftop Surgery is the collaboration of high school buddies Scott Blackley & Craig McFetridge, both have taken different paths since high school , Craig playing drums with Scottish Rockers Mason Hill & Scott shredding guitar with Death Metal outfit Rend Them Asunder. The boys finally got together to form Rooftop Surgery and brought us their first offering The Circle and now follow that with their dark, melodic beast Next To Me which I will be reviewing for you today.
Next To Me – From the off we get dark dreamy guitar picks that allow this track to form a story that then lets the thundering rhythm section break through with a real punchy snare drum groove that really grabs your attention. The roaring vocals come in and are joined by a crunching gritty guitar riff that just lets this monster rear it’s head as the duo really deliver a thought provoking number that has a haunting backdrop that lets us float off to another place with this foot stomping, fist pumping beat that just offloads with a vengeful kick that is just awesome. The soaring guitar licks are firing on all cylinders as the whole composition just pops with energy, depth, attitude and swagger as the boys really pull out the stops and bring us a real doozie of a track that will have you reaching for the repeat button for sure.
