Album Review: Regent’s “Beggars Belief”

Spread the love

Review By Glen Parkes

Regent’s highly anticipated second album, “Beggars Belief,” is a shout out cry for all time and it will be a album that will stick with me for a long time . Following their acclaimed debut, “Just a Revolution,” the Southampton indie-rock outfit returns with a blistering collection of tracks that encapsulate the tumultuous landscape of today’s world.

From the opening salvo of the title track, frontman Ben Rooke unleashes a torrent of righteous indignation aimed squarely at the powers that be. With searing lyrics and a seismic, feedback-drenched score, “Beggars Belief” sets the tone for an album that refuses to pull punches. Rooke’s incisive commentary on political deception and societal inequality reverberates throughout the record, urging listeners to question the status quo and demand change.

Tracks like “She Checks My Head and “Can’t You See” continue the assault on injustice, channeling the band’s blistering rock anthems. Yet amidst the chaos, “Beggars Belief” also offers moments of introspection and vulnerability. Rooke lays bare his struggles with addiction and mental health in “Oh No, I Know” while celebrating the redemptive power of love and camaraderie in “Let Me In” and “Here We Go Again.”

Musically, “Beggars Belief” showcases Regent’s versatility and dynamism. From the grunge-rock swagger of “Liberation” to the soaring melodies of “Flying High,” each track is a testament to the band’s ability hook-laden tunes that resonate deeply with anyone that puts this album on and plays it.

As the album draws to a close with the defiant anthem “Set Me Free,” Regent leaves listeners with a sense of catharsis and hope. Despite the challenges and injustices that surround us, “Beggars Belief” reminds us that we have the power to rise above, to break free from the chains that bind us, and to forge a better future together.

In “Beggars Belief,” Regent has not only delivered a powerful musical statement Berrers Belief places one of the most contemporary voices into rock. With its incendiary energy and unflinching honesty, this album demands to be heard, and its message demands to be heeded. With the added Bonus track as well its a body of work to be proud of
