Review By Darren McIntyre
Black Country Communion are the renowned supergroup featuring Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham & Derek Shernian who came together some 15 years ago to bring us a British / American hard rock / blues rock experience that challenges each musician to make the best music imaginable. The boys have given us Black Country Communion in 2010, Black Country Communion in 2011, Afterglow in 2012, BCC IV in 2017 and on the 14th June they drop their colossal new album V on us, from that album comes second single Enlighten which I will be reviewing for you today.
Enlighten – Erupting from the off comes a shredding guitar riff that is joined by a pounding rhythm section that hits us with all it has as the sludgy bassline drops killer grooves all through the opening salvo. The gravelly rasping vocals come in and really shake things up as this epic 4 piece really kick in the doors with this thundering offering that just stops us in our tracks, we get a smooth keys section that wanders effortlessly through the arrangement as the groove builds and builds and really socks it to us. The crisp slick guitar licks are giving this track depth, direction and bags of swagger as Joe steps forward and just lets go as he slides his way through this pounding beast. The tempo changes direction with a solid snare drum beat that welcomes cymbal snaps that control the groove with their precise tone that gives this track a real edgy groove that will have us reaching for the repeat button for sure.
