Release – 3rd May

Big Iron are a five-piece rock band from Edinburgh who formed last year and have quickly gained attention wherever they perform. Their proactive approach to self-promotion, particularly through humorous reels on social media, has helped boost their visibility. Their latest song is a real gem, combining melodic and heavy elements to create a great track that gets me reaching for my air guitar while my head is nodding, and my feet are tapping. In my humble opinion, that’s when you know you’re listening to a great rock track.
The song begins with a strong instrumental section, gradually layering in heavier elements with the drum beat as it progresses. It’s an undeniable rollercoaster of a ride, full of energy and intensity, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The band’s ability to seamlessly blend melody with raw power showcases their musical skills brilliantly.
They are:
Oliver Wardell – Vocals
Arran Gregory – Bass
James Chapman – Drums
Kieran Johnston – Guitar
Jack Sandilands – Guitar
Jack says of the track, “Our new single Daiquiri is our first effort since our ‘It Gets Bigger’ EP. We actually wrote this song very shortly after the EP tracks, but it just didn’t make it in time to be included, so we thought it’d make a fantastic follow up single!” He goes on to say “The song was almost solely written by Oli. He came to us with the track pretty much finished and we just added a few bits and pieces here and there in the studio to make it what it is now!”

With their unique sound and engaging online presence, Big Iron are definitely one to watch. Despite being relatively new to the scene, they’ve already established themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
Accompanying the song is a fantastic video that is visually captivating and humorous, it adds another dimension to the music, further immersing you into Big Iron’s crazy world. Jack says about the video, “we wanted it to be as outrageous and as full of debauchery as possible, which is what folk have come to expect from Big Iron!”

With the song now stuck in my head I asked Jack what were their plans for the rest of this year? He said “We plan to release more music, although the prospect of an album or another EP in 2024 isn’t likely! At this point we just want to drip feed everyone more music throughout the year as opposed to releasing it all at once. We don’t quite have the size of fanbase for a full-length album, YET!” Personally, I think that will all change as the band move forward. They will be promoting the single and growing their fan base with appearances at Call of the Wild at the end of May and then again at Wildfire Festival at the end of June, before their headline appearance at The Garage Attic in Glasgow. Not bad for a band that only formed late last year!
With more new material promised and an energetic stage presence, it would be a bit silly if you didn’t grab a ticket to see what Big Iron.
Daiquiri lyrics
Keep on dreaming.
Keep on gazing at the screen
Keep on living this lie
My mouth is parched, I’m needing something to get by
Heed my voice, time is a wasting
You my boy, who you be chasing?
Why take the risk, is something amiss who would’ve guessed it.
Wake up this time
Glued to my seat, can’t look away
We feel the pressure so do it today
Fix me a drink, a fine daiquiri
Tasting exquisite but I must take my leave
Don’t keep them waiting
If you believe it you can have it
Manifest the impossible and bring it life
I’m just the ideas man, don’t wanna break the news to you.
I gotta fly
Heed my voice, time is a wasting
You my boy, who you be chasing?
This ain’t a dig but you ain’t so big around other people
So feast your eyes
Glued to my seat, can’t look away
We feel the pressure so do it today
Fix me a drink, a fine daiquiri
Tasting exquisite but I must take my leave
Don’t keep them waiting
Glued to my seat, can’t look away
We feel the pressure so do it today
Fix me a drink, a fine daiquiri
Tasting exquisite but I must take my leave
Don’t keep them waiting
