Review By Darren McIntyre

Marisa & The Moths are a Grunge / Rock outfit who deliver a cool tinge of the 90’s whilst adding their own modern twist. Marisa’a raw & honest lyrics make for a unique and compelling listen. Their 2023 run of singles offered us an intimate look at Marisa’a grief in overcoming an abusive relationship, an insight into her battles with anxiety, depression, an eating disorder. The band kicked of 2023 with EP Damned If I Do and this has allowed them to share the stage with the likes of Kris Barras Band, Von Hertzen Brothers, Those Damn Crows, Elvana & As December Falls, the band bring us the follow up to to their debut self titled album in the form of What Doesn’t Kill You, from the album comes riveting new single Borderline which I will be reviewing for you today.

Borderline – Cool sweet guitar picks wander freely through the intro as the colossal vocals let this grungy rocker break free as we get into the meat and bones of this rasping monster. The rhythm section hits us with a punchy snare drum beat as the cymbal crashes rain down on us as this melodic rocker comes for us with all it has, the foot stomping groove is building as a deep bassline drops killer funk grooves all through the arrangement as this blistering dark melodic number tells it’s own story. The tempo changes pace throughout the mid section as Marisa delivers sizzling vocals that wrap themselves around this grungy beast as it kicks in the doors and offers us an insight into this fantastic four piece as they continue their rise through the ranks of one of the UK’s finest new bands on the circuit today.
