Review By Darren McIntyre
Sable Hills are a metalcore outfit from Tokyo, Japan who formed in 2015, fast forward to 2021 which saw the boys win a Japanese competition that gave them the opportunity to perform at Wacken Open Air, they were so good they were invited back the following year and also won 1st place in the Metal Battle. The boys have given us Embers in 2019, Duality in 2022 with both these albums giving the boys the opportunity to play the likes of Spotify – O -West, Blarefest, Knotfest & their very own Frontline Festival at Kawasaki Club Citta. The boys give us their new album Odyssey and from that comes this fist pumping beast Battle Cry which I will be reviewing for you today.
Battle Cry – From the off we get a shredding power riffed guitar onslaught that really brings this monster to life as the boys offload with a colossal rhythm that just rips this bad boy wide open. The thundering snare drum beats combine with a pounding double bass drum kick that gives this track a real deep understanding, the vocals are a real mixture of growler / sampler / screamer vocals that just let this epic foot stomping beast rear it’s head and let us feel the energy, rawness pouring through this fantastic number. The tempo is a real stop start affair as the deep pulsing bassline drops colossal grooves all through this epic arrangement, the fist pumping beast really punches us in the face with it’s intensity and diverse composition as it winds it’s way through the arrangement and just brings attitude, swagger and throat gurgling vocals that are just on the money.
