Dea Matrona (Divine Mother Goddess) are Mollie McGinn & Orlaith Forsythe who are a fantastic rock duo from Belfast, Ireland. The girls burst onto the scene with a string of busking shows around the streets of Belfast and their electrifying performances quickly caught the attention of YouTube where they have amassed 6.9 million views and have an online community of over 200,000 followers.
The girls have supported the likes of Eagles Of Death Metal & Chris Shiflett and have just released their debut album For Your Sins, with that in mind the girls decided to hit the road in support of this new record and tonight they stop off in Glasgow @ The Cathouse and this time they have grown into a 4 piece rock n roll show with the addition of Declan on Guitar & Ross on Drums. The place is buzzing with excitement as the stage awaits the arrival of Belfast’s favourite lassies and as per usual they are late for their own show as they hustle from the dressing room as their intro music bellows from the stage. My Sharona(The Knack) cover – The rumbling rhythm section comes in with a punchy snare drum groove as the bass kicks let this fantastic cover come to life. Mollie lets her vocals do the talking as Orlaith brings the groove with a funking bassline that really gets The Cathouse moving, the addition of the boys has really lifted their sound as we get a double dose of shredding power from Declan as he struts around the stage and really gives it some welly. The place has just been served a classy rendition of this cool track as we feel the place rumble as they bellow out hello Glasgow and we throw it right back at them with a hollering tone that catches them by surprise, we stroll into
Stamp On It – Coming at us is a deep full on bassline that is setting the tone as the girls bring their sizzling brand of rock to Glasgow. We get sweet melodic vocals that are littered with slick clean guitar riffs that are complimented by a cool rhythm section that hits us with pounding snare drum beats that have cymbal crashes that really light up the Cathouse as the girls open their set with a real punchy full on groove that brings this Glasgow crowd to life, the girls are quite unique in that they swap instruments that really brings a diversity to this young energetic outfit as they just rock out and enjoy the moment that has brought them to this point. Get My Mind Off – The girls tell us the story about exactly the name of the song as we feel a full on bass groove roll into the track as a cool snare drum beat fills the air and lets us feel the beat. The rhythm section is coming for us as the solid hits combine with sweet soulful vocals that are oozing towards us as the girls slip in cool slide guitar licks that just light this track up as we feel the funk element come at us as this well planned track just puts us at ease as the girls settle in and hit their stride and let the crowd know that they are pleased to be in Glasgow and giving us what we want, mid song we are led into a sing song as we belt out the chorus which the girls enjoy as they sing it back as we breeze into
Stuck On You – The rhythm section ripples from the stage as Orlaith lets her bass bring the groove to this fantastic track as the girls let their vocals bring the sultry beat to Glasgow. The girls are just blossoming into little rock stars as they let the boys bring the heat with a funky cool snare drum kick as they wander around the stage and really get us moving, the twin guitar assault is just fantastic as we get all the groove and more as the girls really deliver a killer set that just leaves us wanting more from these Belfast girls. Did Nobody Ever Love You – Orlaith begins with a story about Mollie as she tells us about the time someone let Mollie down so they wrote a track about it. The groove comes in the form of cymbal snaps that let the rhythm flow freely through Glasgow tonight as the full on bassline drops killer funk tones on stage that just get our feet tapping for sure. The twin vocals are letting this track breathe and really giving this crowd a real taste of what these girls are all about, we are singing along to this sweet little track as the drums command the room with a punchy kick that really gives this track soul and depth. The punchy funk laden groove is infectious and really lets the girls cut loose and tell it like it is for sure, there are many who have not seen these girls and I can tell you that they will have some new fans after this electrifying set tonight, we launch into a classic in the form of
Oh Well(Fleetwood Mac) – The track gets a huge cheer from the crowd as the girls mix it up and bring us this classic cover that has a solid bass kick that unfolds into a pounding monster as the girls let rip with a sizzling guitar lick that is wrapped in bass grooves that just let this crowd feel the intensity oozing from this young duo as they set about their business and really bring this classic track to life. Glory Glory(I’m Free) Acoustic – The girls tune up as they ready themselves for this sweet acoustic filled melodic track that slows the tempo down and lets us feel the softer side of this powering young outfit. The sweet guitar licks are working so well with the groovy bassline that is flowing effortlessly through the venue tonight as the girls really deliver a well crafted set that has something for everyone. Murder On The Dancefloor(Sophie Ellis- Bextor) – Cymbal snaps ring out as Mollie brings this killer groove track to life as the girls come together and let the groove hit us. The funking bassline is dropping epic tones all over the place as this fast paced groove laden monster really kicks in and lets Glasgow know that they are ready to bring the party to Scotland tonight.
