War Curse Guitarist Justin Roth on ‘Confession’ and June Tour with Artillery

WARCURSEis an Ohio-based metal quintet whose third LP, Confession was released in 2023 via Metal Blade Records/Blacklight Media. Still rooted in thrash, Confession marks as a slight progression from predecessor albums to focus on songwriting, groove, dynamics, and melody, without compromising on muscle.

I was stoked to see the band open for their Metal Blade labelmates, Artillery, in April 2023 in Brooklyn, New York. That one-off performance was incredibly impressive and was something of a preview of the second leg of their tour of the United States that will begin on June 6 in San Diego, California and run daily through June 25 in Mesa, Arizona.

It was fun to meet guitarist and founder Justin Roth just a few days ahead of that show (and while we were there!), as we discussed his excitement to play the one-off show with Artillery and to tour the South, West and Midwest of the U.S. along with Vapor, Rivetskull and Potential Threat. We also talked about the songs on Confession, recent lineup changes, and the current challenges of the music business.
