Preemptive feminine rage in cowboy boots!
June 2024

Nicole Shortland’s new single Blow proves you don’t have to have Georgia blood to write good Country music. Taking after the likes of Janet Devil (Emotional Rodeo), London born Nicole’s single Blow, has potential to become a Country staple of the summer. With its fresh beat and easy going rhythm, it’s catchy enough to get even casual listeners paying closer attention; and the lyrics are where this song really shines! They speak clearly of Shortland’s expectations and boundaries within relationships and should serve as a launch pad for the standards we should all hold for ourselves.
There’s clearly a history of being pushed around and let down here, but it’s time to stand up and state where our lines are; and fair warning has been given if those lines are crossed. The message is strong and punchy: break my trust and you’ll regret it, I’ve been broken before. It’s no surprise Nicole has a way with words, having written songs for Little Mix and NCT 127, both powerhouses in their genres. With the sweet and flirty tune, the lyrics and beat combine to deliver one of the best “getting ready” tunes to hit the Modern Country playlists this year so far! Hopefully an album isn’t far behind this “bomb” of a track, LVR Records wouldn’t regret it!
