One of my favorite rock musicians and producers today is Alessandro Del Vecchio. He is best known for his years as an in-house producer, writer and performer for Frontiers Records – with his naming appearing in the credits for fronting his band Edge of Forever, to having contributed songs for Sweet Oblivion featuring Geoff Tate and to renowned vocalists like Jeff Scott Soto, Ronny Romero, Jorn Lande, James Durbin and Issa.
He recently stepped away from that role with Frontiers, though he’ll still have a presence in future label releases. Just around the time of his career change in early 2024 it was announced that the multi-instrumentalist would join the prog-metal icons Vanden Plas as their new full-time keyboardist. Their new masterpiece, which features Del Vecchio, The Empyrean Equation of the Long Lost Things, is available worldwide from Frontiers Records.
As if that new responsibility was not fun or challenging enough, Del Vecchio was tapped to join ProgJect as lead vocalist. This musical collective is comprised of some of the best rock musicians to deliver new interpretations of classic rock and prog songs of the 1970s and 1980s. This is a treat for fans in North America, as Progject has a nine-date run of shows between June 20 and June 30.
I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Del Vecchio via interviews covering his varied output through the years. We caught up to discuss his health and some highlights from his years at Frontiers, as well as a glimpse of some upcoming releases. We also talk about his professional philosophies, including preparing for the ProgJect tour, and how he will govern his time as a member of:
