Despite almost hanging up his guitar a year ago, South-London based singer-songwriter O’Hurley is bringing all the broken heart vibes with this track.
In contrast to the first single Evil (a warning to avoid toxic relationships), the new single is upbeat, despite its lyrical content of longing and woe for a love unexpectedly lost. Ironically the track itself was almost “lost” before it was fully written:
“I had this line in my notebook for about four years…’eyes so red’ based on the feeling of pure emotion, from losing someone you weren’t ready to.”
Many of us can relate to that feeling of sudden shock and despair of a loved one moving on, albeit of their own volition it seems due to the story being told here.
Featuring all the acoustic guitar and harmonica you could ask for, Red conjures up images of an aviator and denim clad modern cowboy, cruising along Route 66; with a sunbaked desert backdrop. Think Matthew McConaughey on a road trip vibes. There’s 90s flavors here, as well as more modern blends of folk and country.
The single has just released (June 14th 2024) and the album ‘Q4’ is due to follow later this year.
