Review By Dave Martin

Fahran are a 5-piece alternative metal band hailing from Nottingham. Forming in 2012, the band currently consists of Matt Black on vocals, Chris Byrne and Jake Graham on guitars, Joshua Ballantyne on bass and Josh Fahran on drums. To date they have produced 2 self-produced albums “Chasing Hours” (2014) and “Vapours” (2019). Their latest single “Hate me” has just been released on music services such as Youtube and Spotify and will feature on their new album “The Hope that Kill Me” due out later this year. The single is accompanied by an energetic music video shot at a near by industrial estate in Nottingham.
The song starts off with heavy guitar riffs and drumming before easing back to allow Black’s vocals to take the fore supported by Byrne’s melodic playing. They are rejoined fully by the other members for the chorus which reverts to the heavier styling of the tracks intro. Following a brief instrumental bridge the song moves to the second verse and then another chorus before a breakdown with even heavier riffs and some screaming from Black. Byrne then launches into a fast guitar solo before finishing suddenly.
The track is well written with contrast created between more melodic and heavy sections accented by the change in the percussion. Metal lovers, this song is well worth a listen and is being added to my playlist. Black’s vocaIs are unique and this combined with the strong musicianship from the rest of the band means I am looking forward to the forthcoming album due out in October of this year.
