Review By Smudge Smith

Chemical Storm are an old school thrash metal mob from Kent. It’s been six years since their previous effort, but they haven’t been idle, they have been observing society’s reliance and obsession with mobile and electronic devices and as such they’ve written songs about this very subject.

Opening with the monster chugfest of ‘God Forbid’ they launch into a perfect slice of rabid 80’s thrash all propelled by Kev ‘Kevlar’ Hudson’s pounding drums. ‘Shallow Hole’ is a raw-boned beast again driven along by a rapid rhythm and guitarists Dave Austin and Joe Davis’ savage riffery which is relentless. ‘Blunt Force Drama’ starts with a tribal drum pattern before the growling bottom end of Tom ‘Pidge’ Lane sets up the riff. It’s slower and heavy with some fine leads from Austin with a call and response thing from singer Liam ‘Big Lez’ Underdown who tells you about yourself in no uncertain terms. Finally, the title track goes full on metal thrashing mad that’s jam packed with riffs.

Jeez this is good. Proper old school thrash! Nasty raw and powerful. I don’t know who produced this EP, but the sounds are incredible with everything right up in your face. On this evidence Chemical Storm have what it takes to go right to the top. Buy this EP and thrash ‘til death!!
