Wild Rivers are bringing all the heartbreak and angst in their folk ballad Backfire.

Written by Flynn Herondale, June 2024.

Beautifully touching piano, meets expertly crafted lyrical storytelling to create a track that feels like a movie.

The group themselves succinctly describes the meaning behind the track:

“‘Backfire’ is about waiting for the ‘right moment’ to act on a feeling towards someone, until the window of opportunity inevitably passes. You hold back because you fear that speaking your truth will compromise the relationship, and the risk feels too overwhelming. It’s a song about wishing you could have been bolder in those moments.”

It’s a scenario many of us can relate too, that ‘one that got away’ feeling. The track is chilled and soothing enough to be a great addition to a dinner party playlist or coffee shop work session, whilst also being heart rending and familiar enough to sob on your bedroom floor too.

Backfire is out now, followed eagerly by the album ‘Never Better’ on July 26th. Catch Wild Rivers on tour across the US now and across the UK and Ireland this November (2024).
