CANTERVICE – Food for Thought?

Single – Chasing the Sky

Release date – 9th July 24

Review by Linda McDermott

I love heavy tracks that build up before erupting into an explosion of angst and foreboding, and that’s exactly what I have here. CANTERVICE have that fantastic stadium sound to them as they twist and turn their way through their latest single taking you on an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish. ‘Chasing the Sky’ demonstrates their ability to fuse heavy, aggressive music with poignant messages. The song portrays a growing tension and anxiety, reflecting themes of exploitation and its impact on individuals. With a relentless beat that lift you up and carry’s you along, aided by the ferocious vocals, the band conveys a sense of urgency and raw emotion. CANTERVICE stand out for their talent in both musicianship and lyrical composition and are a band that has me reaching for my phone to download the rest of their releases.

They say of the song, “Lyrically ‘Chasing the Sky’ sits right at home within our overarching dystopian narrative.” “It is also a relevant commentary on today’s workforce and how common it is in the culture, especially in corporate, for leadership to dangle “carrots” in front of employees, such as the verbal promise of a raise or promotion, which are often false and not in writing. These are psychologically manipulative tactics intended to exploit ambition, pushing employees to work harder and beyond the initial scope of their role to achieve leadership’s own goals. The leaders then advance in their own careers while boasting these accomplishments on their resumes and LinkedIn, all without sharing the success with the employees who got them there or providing them with any additional momentum for their career growth. The employees often come out very damaged from this process, in ways that not only affect their motivation for work and career growth but also impact their personal lives and the relationships with those they are closest to.”

The band give listeners food for thought with their strong views which they express through their music and lyrical content and go on to say “Freedom is an illusion, one created by those who’ve taken the concept of freedom, hijacked it, and then repackaged it into a commodity. We live in a world where our thoughts, feelings, and interactions are stamped with a bar code and sold to the highest bidder. We are all victims of informational and psychological warfare on a day-to-day basis, and our perception of reality has become nothing more than what those wishing to play God have created for us. We belong to them now, and we allowed it to happen. We voted for it, invested in it, and as we descended into a state of Stockholm syndrome, we traded what rights we had left for security, to protect us from the same system that

they created. It’s a system created for a single purpose, to ensure that we always will need them. Society has become brainwashed and sedated, slowly entering into a slumber of which there is no return. This was the plan from the beginning, the wheels are in motion, and they are making their move. Now the question is, what will we do to stop it”?

Do you agree or disagree? Have a listen to the single and decide for yourself.
