Review by Linda McDermott
Have you heard of Mike Tramp? For those that haven’t, here’s an insight for you. Danish born Mike Tramp has been involved in music for over forty years and came to prominence in the music scene with White Lion, a band that formed in 1983. After signing to Atlantic Records, the band enjoyed a lot of success with several albums before disbanding in1992.
After White Lion, Mike formed the hard rock band Freak of Nature, who had a decidedly darker and harder vibe than White Lion. Freak Of Nature went on to release three studio albums before disbanding in 1996.
Three years later, Mike kicked off his solo career with the album, ‘Capricorn’ which was followed in 2002, with ‘Recovering the Wasted Years’. He than took a break for four years to tour and record under the name of Mike Tramp’s White Lion which he shortened back to just White Lion, releasing the album ‘Return of The Pride’ in 2008.
The following year, Mike started writing and recording as a solo artist releasing nine studio albums, including his most recent, 2022’s ‘For Første Gang.’
He has also been a consistent presence on the road, both as an acoustic solo artist and with a backing band, with no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
Moving forward to the present day, Mike Tramp releases “Lonely Nights,” the second single from his upcoming album, ‘Songs of White Lion – Vol. II’, the first being ‘Lights and Thunder’. This new album features songs originally released by the band back in the 1980’s that Mike has re visited and recorded, so look out for it on August 23rd.
Lonely Nights is a classic rock song that after 36 years, retains its original essence and appeal, while feeling contemporary. The melody still has its charm and is captivating while being performed in a different key. Mikes voice sounds even stronger on this version of the song, adding a fresh dimension to the track. This updated single blends nostalgia with a modern fresh approach, appealing to both old fans and new listeners alike. As with his other songs it tells a story both with the music and the lyrics, weaving a narrative from beginning to end with guitar riffs running throughout to compliment the choruses that tie it all together.

About the upcoming album, Mike Tramp says this. “Would Leonardo Da Vinci have re-painted Mona Lisa, if he had gotten a second chance? That, we will never know, but I can say for sure, that I am beyond thrilled to have gotten a second chance to re-record and sing the songs I wrote between 1983 and 1990. Today I have such a
better understanding of how I want to express the songs in my voice than I had when I was in my 20’s, it’s just a fact, and I’ve grabbed the chance. ‘Songs Of White Lion’ is a whole new chapter, matter of fact it is current.”
Mike will embark on an extensive tour with ‘Songs of White Lion Vol.II starting in mid-August to coincide with its release. The tour gives you the opportunity to take a trip down memory lane, but with an updated and fresh approach, or you may be discovering Mike Tramp for the first time, either way I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
