Unknown Refuge – Shellshock – Single Review

Spread the love

Review By Graeme Wright

Unknown Refuge announced recently that they were to go on hiatus for the foreseeable future and I received that news with much sadness. I’ve seen the band twice in the live arena and they blew me away both times. They have a totally unique sound, they produce songs with incredibly intelligent lyrics and have a vocalist with a unique range who really portrays the emotional element within each song. If you add in a band who are incredibly tight live and a guitarist who is one of the best young musicians out there it’s surprising to me that more people didn’t pick up on this superb outfit.

The new single ‘Shellshock’ is a monster of a track. It contains a huge bass line, a thunderous drumming performance, some amazing guitar solos and those trademark lyrics which when combined produce another fantastic release from this band. I urge you to delve into both this record and their back catalogue so you can hear how truly great this outfit is, and you can join me in prayer that the aforementioned programmed break is only short term and they are back on the road soon. If that’s not the case I’d like to thank them for all the music they’ve blessed us with so far and wish them good luck for the future, whatever decision they make.
