Review By Dave Martin
Saloon of Doom is the first official release from Black Country band Blackstone and precedes their future album “Tales from the Whorehouse” due out later this year. The band comprises Joe Powley on vocals, Jamie Riches on lead guitar, James Paris on bass, Sam Jeffery on drums and Phil Cox on rhythm guitar.

The track takes traditional country lyrics and infuses them with metal undertones. The gravelly vocals are akin to normal heavy metal music but the story being told is more western in nature. The heavy guitar riffs and high energy drums move away from the traditional country style giving this track a unique feel. Guitarist Phil Cox explains “Saloon of doom is a vague depiction of somewhere like the first chance saloon in Montana on an everyday evening; Guys just drinking, fighting, gambling, partying. We wanted to create a bouncy, almost partying sound while keeping in with the aggression that we like to create.”
For readers that are familiar with the Kent music scene over the years, Phil Cox, the main song writer is a former member of Inception’s Dawn and Kick, Kick Murder Squad.
With this blend of genres being different to other fusions I look forward to the release of the full album.
