Released – 26th September
Review by Linda McDermott
Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Piper’s journey began with a passion for the unconventional and a determination to forge her own path.
Comparisons to industry icons like Avril Lavigne and Paramore underscore the appeal of Piper’s sound. She blends elements of rock and pop, new and old, appealing to a wide audience.
From a very young age, Piper found solace and expression in songwriting, her compositions reflecting the raw emotions of life’s complexities and newfound experiences. Drawing inspiration from all manner of music, from early rock and roll, and jazz, to 90s grunge and ska with a steady undercurrent of R&B and soul, she’s worked to hone her sound, blending elements of indie songwriting, alternative and pop to create her own vision.
The song ‘Welcome Back Girl’ is an emotive and important track. She confides, ”I wrote the song after seeing a friend rediscover herself after a very difficult time. She had completely lost herself as a result of a really bad relationship which included intimate partner violence. This beautiful, strong, effervescent personality had become unrecognisable as the person we all love so much. She left them, which was very hard for her to do and, with time, came healing and that familiar lovely woman came back to us and back to herself. She is now the ‘Welcome Back Girl’ in my song.”
Piper has a beautifully melodic voice that will captivate listeners by conveying deep emotions throughout the song. Despite her youth, she has a remarkable ability to address challenging topics, such as abuse, with a maturity that resonates deeply. Her song explores the emotional impact of abuse, illustrating how it can profoundly affect and change a person. Through her voice, she channels raw, heartfelt emotion, making the listener feel the weight of the subject. Her vocal tone shifts seamlessly throughout the track, enhancing the emotional journey and showcasing her impressive range and control. Each listen uncovers new subtleties and tones in her voice, making the song more impactful with every play. For someone so young, her talent and potential suggest she could go far in the music industry. Her unique vocal quality, combined with her ability to address difficult topics with grace, makes her a compelling and easy singer to listen to. Her music leaves a lasting impression, suggesting she has much more to offer as her career develops.
Beyond her music, Piper is a vocal advocate for authenticity and self-expression, using her platform to champion individuality and empowerment. As she explores the boundaries of alt-pop, she continues to inspire others to embrace their true selves through her music and activism, serving as a beacon of creativity and authenticity in a world hungry for genuine voices and connection.
Lyrics to Welcome Back Girl
They’re right, I’m wrong I’m weak, they’re strong. Keep smiling. Nice and quiet. You don’t belong. Just play along. Stop fighting. Douse your fire. You’re just a girl so stop the dreaming. Get used to the bleeding (yeah right). I. I’ll burn their house to the ground. Don’t need it, take back what is. Mine I don’t need anyone else, just me and myself. Welcome back girl. Lower your voice. Stop making noise. Stay hidden. Just look pretty (yeah). Boys will be boys. You’ve got no choice. Live with it. Don’t be picky (no). Stop telling me what to believe in. Stop trying to appease me. I. I’ll burn their house to the ground. Don’t need it, take back what is. Mine. I don’t need anyone else, just me and myself. Welcome back girl. I’ll throw down and step on my halo. I’m already carrying the payload. I’ll do this on my own. I can break the mold. Gonna build my throne (yeah). I’m sick of them telling me to lay low. Watch me I’ll write my own fable. I can break the mold. Gonna build my throne. I’m right, they’re wrong. They’re weak, I’m strong. I’m smiling. You keep quiet. Knew all along. That I belong. I’m fighting. Found my fire.
