Floor 14 – Waste of Space Single Review

Floor 14 – Waste of Space

Floor 14 are a Maidstone based 5 piece comprising Callum Peen on vocals, Ethan Wright and Ned Woodman on guitars, Josh Hutchinson on drums and Dylan Bowden on bass.

This EP is the debut release by the band who site their influences as Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Kyuss, and Metallica. With this as their basis it leads to some eclectic mixes of music, and this is apparent between the three tracks of this EP. “Blank Canvas” the first track is an emotional acoustic offering about a break up and the subsequent growth out of the situation. This is in stark contrast to the second track “Shell Shock” which is a riff heavy song which outlines the futility of war for the people involved and how it can affect the people involved with it. The vocal stylings are similar to that of early work by the band Silverchair. The drums push the pace and there is the use of guitar solos giving a far rockier feel than its predecessor.  The final track “Waste of space” commences with a bass intro before guitar sliding into the vocals singing about teenage obsession. Like the second track this EP has pushed tempo drums and guitar riffs accented by a solo.

Overall the blend of vocal stylings and instrumental works well and has a unique quality when fused together.
