Review By Glen Parkes

Sheffield’s own blues rock phenoms, The Heavy Souls, are back with an electrifying new single, Sleepwalking, the latest track to be unleashed ahead of their eagerly awaited debut album Have You Got Soul, set to drop on January 31, 2025. With their gritty, bluesy riffs and explosive energy, the quartet is proving once again why they’re one of the UK’s most exciting rising acts in rock. The track follows up their previous single, setting a high bar for the album that’s already generating a buzz in the modern blues rock scene.

Sleepwalking opens with a deep, slow-burning riff courtesy of guitarist Ben Boswell whose slide guitar licks drip with the soulful intensity of classic blues, but are tinged with a modern edge. The track builds layer upon layer of sound, withCharlie Morris thunderous drumming propelling the groove forward. His beats are not only powerful but intricate, driving the song with both muscle and finesse.

Bassist Ryan Jones provides a solid foundation, laying down a pulsing, rhythmic backbone that locks in with Harper’s drums, creating the perfect canvas for the song’s evocative atmosphere. His basslines weave seamlessly in and out of the melody, giving the track depth and heft that makes it more than just a slow rocker—it’s a bluesy, heady experience that pulls you in.

Frontman Clark Vaughan delivers a vocal performance that hits all the right emotional notes. His voice, raw and gritty, conveys a sense of longing and melancholy, embodying the feeling of being lost and aimless, as the song’s title suggests. The lyrics of Sleepwalking speak to the confusion and disconnection of wandering through life without direction, and King’s delivery brings those emotions to life. The chorus, with its plea to “wake me up, I’ve been sleepwalking,” is both haunting and powerful, reverberating with every note.

Sleepwalking sets the stage for what promises to be a massive debut. The Heavy Souls have a knack for capturing the soulfulness of classic blues while infusing it with a contemporary rock edge. If Sleepwalking is any indication, The Heavy Souls are about to deliver one of the most memorable rock debuts in recent memory. This is blues rock done right—gritty, emotional, and deeply satisfying. Keep an eye on these guys, because they’re just getting started.
