Review By Dave Martin
Linkin Park have just released their third instalment from forthcoming album “From Zero” due out on the 15th November. The release follows “The Emptiness Machine” that debuted in the bands first live performance for 7 years in Los Angeles and “Heavy is the Crown” the League of Legends Worlds 2024 Anthem. Both songs heavily feature the Nu Metal retro feel that brought the band to prominence in the 2000’s with the contrast between vocal stylings and distinctive instrumental work.
My first impression of the new track is that it has a different feel to the other tracks distributed so far. It is the first not to showcase Emily Armstrong’s screaming ability and rapping from Mike Shinoda. It also doesn’t incorporate Linkin Parks stereotypical sound and tempers the expectation that the new album with be a Meteoraesque style album that would take Linkin Park back to their roots as suggested by the “From Zero” title of the album (Xero having been the bands previous name).
The song is good and Armstrong’s vocals are strong. The content of the lyrics is Linkin Park in nature leaning on personal anguish and emotion but musically it just doesn’t feel like a Linkin Park track. The track is accompanied by a music video that starts with Armstrong in a car accident and proceeds to tell the story before and after the accident and the ultimate pain of losing a loved one.
