Review By Darren McIntyre
Zack Runyon is a doctor turned country music star who got the calling to follow his passion of playing country music to the masses and follow his dream. Zack grew up in a small town nestled in West Virginia and began playing music in church aged 5 before progressing to writing his own songs during his early teens, Zack trained as an ER Doctor and still contributes at least 6 times a month whilst juggling being a father to his 2 kids but feels the pulling of being a country musician is greater. Zack drops his debut single That’s What’s Up which I will be reviewing for you today.
That’s What’s Up – A cool acoustic guitar / lap steel combo rolls out of this smooth melodic country groover as the sweet vocals really grab our attention as we get to grips with this rising country musician. The sampler tones flowing through the track give this track a real thigh slapping appeal as Zack lets his gravelly vocals wrap themselves around this thought provoking hoe down classic, the snare drum punches allow the rhythm section to get the track off the ground as a cool dark brooding bassline drops cool punchy tones that just let this track breathe. The cool lap steel tones really deliver a mellow lick that is just like leading your lady to the dancefloor and letting this powering groove lead her to a real punchy tune that is a real country driven piece that builds and builds and although it is a short arrangement is really packs a punch that will have us reaching for the repeat button for sure.
