EP – Violent Kicks & Dirty Sounds
Release Date- 29th November
Review by Linda McDermott
Why have I not seen or heard of this band before? To Nowhere are a revelation, grabbing my attention from the very first note with a sound that is as versatile as it is captivating.
‘To Nowhere’ are an alt-rock/alt-grunge band based in the Northeast of England and were born in 2021bursting onto the scene with the release of their debut song “Low” which shows that they can write tunes that can get a crowd moving! In 2022 they released two more songs (Medusa & Connected) to finish the first trilogy. After a short hiatus they came back in 2023 with a lineup change and the release of “Think Deep” and then ‘Alive’ in July 2024.
Their latest EP is a testament to their dynamic range, showcasing tracks that cover the spectrum of rock music with ease and precision. One moment, I’m immersed in the melodic, soul-stirring anthem that is ‘Bloom,’ it’s the kind of track that feels like it belongs on a road trip playlist, with its smooth guitars and atmospheric tones pulling you in. The next, the energy shifts dramatically to a raw, adrenaline-pumping explosion of heavy beats on ‘Alive,’ which is perfectly engineered to fuel a mosh pit frenzy. Then there’s the thought provoking ‘Think Deep’ that delves into drug abuse and before I’ve even finished this review, I’ve downloaded their back catalogue of singles.
They are:
Robbie Crown – Vocals
Alex Riffshaw – Guitar
Alex Brown – Guitar
Connor Franklin – Drums
Josh Fodden – Bass & Vocals
What sets this band apart is the seamless interplay between the guitars, drum, and bass, with intricate rhythms and riffs that create a sound that is cohesive. Adding to their appeal are the vocals, which deliver a deeply emotive richness that ties everything together. Whether soaring through high-energy choruses or delving into introspective verses, Robbie’s voice is full of raw emotion, that has my attention.
The band’s ability to blend heartfelt melodies with unapologetic intensity makes them a force to be reckoned with. Their EP not only hints at their potential but cements their place as a must-watch band. It’s impossible not to imagine the powerful energy they must bring to a live show.
The band says “Violent Kicks and Dirty Sounds, encapsulates a variety of sounds and genres that show that To Nowhere can do it all, and then some. The new E.P compiles all the bands most recent releases, plus, a brand-new bonus track.
Each track shows a different side to the band and proves they can’t be pigeon-holed and gives you a taste of what is to come as the band begin to write more songs and get back into the studio.” I’d say so!
The band are excited to have made the Call Of The Wild Trailblazer Heats at The Nightrain in Bradford on March 15th and I for one will be there and looking forward to seeing them live.
To celebrate the release of the EP, To Nowhere will perform both their new single ‘Bloom’ and all the other songs on the EP for the first time at the Riverside in Newcastle on 30th November, so be there to hear it! Meantime, check out the videos and give them a follow on their social pages.
