Review by Phil M.
Having been around for over twenty years it should come as no surprise that this new single would be well crafted. While relatively not so well known outside of their native Sweden where they have achieved great things including six platinum singles, the band have also more recently been making headway into the German market with their album ‘The Agony Flame’ and single success with ‘The loneliest hour’.
This newly dropped track ‘The Game’ is supported by a highly professional and impressively put together semi-animated lyric video:
The track kicks off with echoed Guitar so like G’N’R’s ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ that I wondered if I had played the wrong track. But there the similarities end, the track immediately impresses with the smoothness of the production. The beat is energetic without being frantic and the song well crafted. The sound is a mix of rock with a distorted, but not too distorted guitar, disco style beats with a memorable chorus. Aimed at a commercial audience there’s no lead break and given the teasing guitar intro, seems a shame. Of the lyrical content, the band have this to say: “It’s about a man and his true love from the past. All he wants is to get clean from his sex addiction and just focus on the two of them, but it’s too strong. There’re too many temptations out there and ultimately, he’ll be ending up alone.”
I’m a big fan of their compatriots The Night Flight Orchestra and this very much reminded me of them which can be no bad thing.
