Stoner/Doom

Heavy Psych Sounds

Release Date – February 14th 2025

Review By Smudge Smith

Warlung are from Houston, Texas and have been around since 2016. This is their fifth full album. They were formed out of the dissolution of two other bands and the members decided to write a few tunes and see where they could take them using their 70’s influences in the modern era.

I suppose we ask what sets all these bands apart well for one Warlung have a great dual vocal thing going on which adds a ton of melody to the weight of their music. The opening two tracks ‘Digital Smoke’ and latest single ‘White Light Seeker’ are proof.

The interlude of ‘Mourning Devils’ leads to the eight minute plus psych-go-round ‘Spell Speaker’ with all its movements before ‘Holy Guide’ offers up some proper stoner. ‘Rat Bastard’ is heavier and nastier, then we get some spooky psych on ‘The Sleeping Prophet’ which is all jangly guitars and synths in the background before we get some serious ‘wah-wah’ action on ‘29th Scroll, 6th Verse’ and they groove into another stoner/psych banger.

Yep, Warlung offer up something different but all within their stoner rock frame. If you’re a fan of 70’s inspired rock, then I’m sure you will get something out of this.
