The Bourne Music Club’s inaugural Kent International Blues Festival was nothing short of spectacular. Blues enthusiasts were treated to an unforgettable day celebrating authentic Chicago Blues, featuring an all-star lineup of legends and rising stars. Each artist brought a unique flavor to the event, ensuring every performance felt like a headlining act.

A Star-Studded Lineup
The festival delivered a stellar lineup, headlined by the legendary John Primer. With three Grammy nominations and a career rooted in the history of Chicago Blues, Primer’s set was a masterclass in tradition and artistry. His powerful guitar work and soulful vocals transported the audience to the heart of the Windy City, leaving no doubt as to why he’s a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Toronzo Cannon, an Alligator Records artist, was a fiery presence on stage. Known for his electrifying performances, Cannon lived up to the praise of luminaries like Gary Clark Jr. and Joe Bonamassa, showcasing his exceptional guitar skills and charismatic stage presence.

The queen of the day, however, was Nora Jean Wallace. Making her UK debut, she received a well-deserved standing ovation for her spellbinding set. Her voice, rich with soul and emotion, was a testament to why Koko Taylor herself recognized her as a torchbearer of real blues. Wallace’s performance was a highlight, her passion and raw talent captivating the entire crowd.

Oscar Wilson, frontman of the Cash Box Kings, brought a vintage flair, expertly channeling the sounds of 1940s and 1950s Chicago Blues. His powerful, emotive vocals were a standout feature, earning admiration from fans and newcomers alike.

Giles Robson and his band were the glue that held the night together. Robson’s harmonica playing was sublime, and his energy elevated the entire event. Acting as the evening’s host, he introduced each act with charisma and seamlessly joined performances, embodying the spirit of collaboration that defines blues music.

A Community Achievement
Special recognition must go to Mark, the driving force behind the festival. His dedication and vision in bringing this event to life were evident in every detail. The festival not only celebrated music but also fostered a sense of community, with fans and artists alike coming together to honor the blues.

Final Thoughts
The Kent International Blues Festival was a monumental success and a shining example of how live music can unite and inspire. Each act delivered a world-class performance, leaving no doubt that this festival will become a staple in the blues calendar.

If this is just the beginning, we can’t wait to see what The Bourne Music Club has in store for future editions. For blues lovers, this was a day to remember—a triumph for all involved.
