Review By Darren McIntyre

Dim Gray are a 5 piece art rock outfit from Oslo, Norway who originally began life as a quartet who all moved from different parts of Norway to start their bachelors degrees in music. The band spent several years searching for and perfecting their sound and the rest as they say is history, the boys have given us Flown in 2020, sophomore album Firmament in 2022 & Live In Europe in 2023. The boys are about to unleash their 3rd offering Shards upon us on the 28th February, to wet our appetites they are giving us their new single Feathers which I will be reviewing for you today.

Feathers – The track begins with a real air of mystery to it as melodic, soulful vocals flow effortlessly through the intro as cool, sweet guitar licks make themselves known to us. The symphonic, atmospheric number brings in a stringed section that really makes you sit up and take notice, the rhythm section brings a solid snare drum beat that lets the cymbal snaps take the track onwards as we feel the coolness ripple through the whole arrangement. The guitar tones are really lifting the track as a cool dark bassline drops mellow grooves that just let us feel the depth of this haunting, melodic number as the boys put us through our paces with their mind bending musicality that just transports you to another place and time. The arrangement is just taking your breathe away with it’s timeless tone and direction that is just incredible.
