Review By Glen Parkes

Leadfeather’s Roll the Dice is a gritty, unfiltered journey into the heart of heavy rock, blending bluesy swagger and ‘70s rock sensibilities with a modern edge. Released on February 14, 2025, through Indian Summer Records, the six-track debut EP establishes the London-based band as one to watch. Recorded live in just three days, the EP radiates raw energy and authenticity—a rarity in today’s heavily polished rock scene.

The title track, “Roll The Dice,” opens the EP with a punch. With blistering guitar riffs from Simon Hurts and a commanding vocal performance by Apostolos, it’s a bold anthem about taking risks and living with the consequences. The song’s driving rhythm and soaring chorus will no doubt become a staple in their live shows.

Following that rush, “Silver & Feathers” offers a change of pace. This instrumental track showcases Leadfeather’s musicianship, allowing Hurts’ guitar to shine in a bluesy, hypnotic soundscape. It feels like a deep breath before plunging into the EP’s heaviest moments.

“Higher” is a standout, a soulful yet gritty track that explores the quest for personal growth and meaning. Apostolos’ vocals reach new emotional depths here, backed by Daniel Devis’ groove-heavy basslines and Thanos’ powerful drumming. The song builds to a cathartic crescendo, leaving listeners breathless.

“Danger Zone” is pure rock fury—fast-paced and rebellious. With fiery solos and relentless drumming, it’s a heart-racing ride through life’s reckless choices and near misses. “Shoot For The Stars” follows, delivering a message of determination and perseverance wrapped in an anthemic chorus that begs to be sung at full volume.

The EP closes with “Why,” a haunting and introspective ballad that reflects on heartbreak and human fragility. Stripped back compared to the rest of the EP, it allows the emotion to take center stage, leaving a lasting impression.

Produced, mixed, and mastered by Simon Hurts at Silver Feather Studio, Roll the Dice is a testament to the power of live recording. There’s a rawness and spontaneity that captures the spirit of classic rock while keeping it fresh for today’s listeners. The band’s chemistry is palpable, their sound cohesive yet unrestrained.

For a debut EP, Roll the Dice is remarkably assured. Leadfeather manages to evoke the spirit of rock’s golden age while carving out their own path. With their powerful sound and unapologetic energy, Leadfeather is poised to become a major player in the modern rock scene.

If you’re a fan of bands like Led Zeppelin, Free, or Rival Sons, Roll the Dice is a must-listen. It’s not just an EP—it’s a bold introduction to a band that knows exactly who they are and where they’re headed. Leadfeather rolled the dice, and they’re coming up winners.
