Review by Phil M.
This is the third in a linked series of tracks released by Calva Louise, following on from ‘La Corriente’ and before that ‘Under the Skin’. The band tell us that the song “is about that feeling of powerlessness that occurs when we are in situations beyond our control. Even being stoic or positive is not enough to withstand and face the challenges thrown at us, but at the same time, we don’t want to completely give up.”
The track itself kicks off at breathtaking pace with distorted guitar and screamed vocals, before settling into a more melodic verse with keyboards dominating. There is good use of dynamics and changes in pace, and at full flow the band produce an impressive sound for just a three-piece. There are elements of industrial, nu-metal as well as a poppier side too and there’s some good keyboard arpeggio work. The track has an edge to it too and
follows on in the horror/sci-fi world that they have created with their earlier singles. And of course there’s a supporting and spooky video tying the story in:
While the band are based in the UK they come from diverse geographical backgrounds – Venezuela, France and New Zealand to be precise. They have been busy gigging and will be joining Bloodywood on their European tour towards the end of this month.
Calva Louise are:
Jess Allanic – Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard
Alizon Taho – Bass/Backing Vocals
Ben Parker – Drums/Backing Vocals
