Joanne Shaw Taylor is a singer / Guitarist / songwriter from Wednesbury, West Midlands, UK who has been bringing her infectious brand of Americana / Blues since 2002. Joanne was discovered by Dave Stewart(Eurythmics Fame) at aged just 16, Joanne has won Best Female Vocalist @ British Blues Awards 2010, 2011 & Songwriter Of The Year. Joanne has given us White Sugar in 2009, Diamonds In The Dirt in 2010, Almost Always Never in 2012, Songs From The Road in 2013, The Dirty Truth in 2014, Wild in 2016, Reckless Heart in 2019, Reckless Blues EP in 2020, The Blues Album in 2021, Blues From The Heart Live in 2022, Nobody’s Fool in 2022, Sweet Little Lies in 2023 and will release her new album Heavy Soul on June 7th. Joanne has already given us the fantastic singles  Devil In Me,  All The Things I Said and Who’s Gonna Love Me Now. Joanne brings us her new album Black & Gold on the 13th June and she recently gave us  single Grayer Shade Of Blue and follows that with the foot stomping groover Hell Of A Good Time  which I will be reviewing for you today.

Hell Of A Good Time – A slick cool guitar kicks off proceedings as Joanne steps up and lets her soulful, gritty vocals bring this awesome track to life with ease as the band kicks in and really starts to cook. The rhythm section is commanding the room with a real solid snare drum beat that brings cymbal snaps that let the groove flow, the Hammond style keys are giving the track a real honky tonk feel as the arrangement just builds with ease. The low end bassline is coming at us with real funky, deep, delicious tones that just wrap themselves around this fantastic rock n roll bruiser, Joanne leans in and offloads with a real gritty rasping solo that tells us all we need to know about this blues songstress as she continues to dazzle with her rasping vocals that let her guitar do the talking as we feel another cool hit coming right for us. The album is a real doozie and you will not be disappointed when you get it in your ears.
